Two Poems by Devon Webb

PIZZA BAGELS & YOU

At night, as I fall asleep
I think about pizza bagels
& you
how on the morrow
I will have pizza bagels
& you
like an endless sunrise
I can eat
metaphorically or
otherwise

I want to be very
very
not sparing with you
I want to be
so
decadent
cheese
on cheese
on sauce

I want your whole
hole
I want
everything around the hole
I want you every day the way
my mother says I shouldn’t
eat bagels every day
I want you that way

An everyday kind of way
breakfast, tea & in between
let’s burn these
carbs
baby
I want to be so
naughty
but also I’m on a
low carb
diet
let’s get low
let’s burn carbs
lowly
like peasants with their
daily bread
let’s get that bread
baby

let’s stay winning

have you ever had a morning
where you just said
yes

have I ever had something to want
as purely as pizza bagels
& you

has it ever just made sense
right from the beginning?

SWEET MOTHER

SWEET MOTHER
I CARE SO MUCH I COULD CRY
I POUR MY ENERGY INTO A SMILE
IT’S ALL ROLLING IN ONE DIRECTION
STRAIGHT THROUGH THE EYE
IN THE MIDDLE OF
MY FOREHEAD

I WANT TO KNOW HOW YOU ARE
I WANT TO SAY HELLO
I DON’T WANT TO HAVE
NOWHERE TO GO BUT
HOME ALONE

I WANT TO SEE YOU DANCING IN SPACE DUST
IN DUVETS & DORITO CRUMBS
I DON’T WANT TO LEAVE
I WANT TO BE FREE
I WANT MORE TIME

I WANT EVERYTHING TO BE FINE
& NOT IN A RUSH
I WANT FOREVER BUT I KNOW THAT’S TOO MUCH
I WANT TO STAY
I WANT TO BE PRESENT

MAYBE THAT’S WHY I KEEP GIVING YOU PRESENTS

I WANT TO BE ALL OVER YOUR BEDROOM
MEMENTOS OF PAST MOMENTS
AUGUST OCTOBER OCTOBER
WILL IT EVER STOP
THIS TIME WE KEEP WASTING

WILL I EVER ARRIVE
ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STAR
WILL YOU EVER LISTEN
INSTEAD OF GROOVING
THROUGH THIS STRANGE SPACE

IS THERE A SILENCE WORTH
A MILLION MISSED MINUTES
WHERE WE CAN GIVE
SOMETHING BACK?
