Not Scary

Jeffrey Kingman

Everything here is red.
A horror movie

wetness
between thumb and forefinger.

Need a definition of everything
aware of itself

perceived by a
something. Flinch
at the gleaming fangs.

Need to know where here is:
the cat
being held
calms.

Held means
a quart of milk in a bottle.

Milk
like blood
only whiter.

Need to know if her dress is white
and wet and held.

Her name is
Christopher Lee, but
that’s too safe.
She calls herself Carmilla.

Jeffrey Kingman’s poetry collection, BEYOND THAT HILL I GATHER, was published by Finishing Line Press in June of 2021. He is the winner of the 2018 Eyelands Book Award (Greece) for an unpublished poetry book. He has poems published in PANK, Clackamas Literary Review, Visitant, and others. Jeffrey is a drummer.
